Club Sail also offers RYA approved Powerboat courses from the new Marina San Miguel, located in Amarillo Golf / Golf de Sur close to Tenerife South airport. Our base on Tenerife in the Canary Islands, with its all year around sunshine, enables us to offer you Powerboat courses 360 days of the year.
As a Royal Yachting Association (RYA) Approved Training Centre our school, its boats and Instructors are regularly inspected by the RYA independently assuring the highest standards.
Using Bombard 550 RIBs with 90hp engines enables us to offer you a very cost effective one or two day course ideal if you would like a Powerboat International Certificate of Competence (ICC), are a diver, a fisherman, or someone who just wants to take a boat out to see dolphins. Specialising in families Club Sail also offers the perfect holiday excursion.

Our RIBs are capable of nearly 30 knots, and cruise along at 22 knots, are fitted with all the usual safety equipment (including English style lifejackets, dan-buoy, horseshoe and GPS) as well as a fish finder and bottle racks.
Headed by Andrew Williams, assisted by his partner Janet, and supported by his team of experienced staff Club Sail is a family business, whose mission is to provide a personal service to all its multi-national clients.
Andrew has been sailing since he was eight years old, and has been a RYA Yachtmaster Instructor for over 15 years. He is qualified in sail, motor yachting, and power boats as well as being a RYA Examiner.
Janet, a RYA Yachtmaster, runs the office, manages the bookings and helps support the team of Instructors.
Led by our Chief Instructor Doug Carroll, our Powerboat Instructors Mark and Malcolm run most of the Power Boat courses with Andrew concentrating on own boat tuition on boats over 10m.
Our ultimate aim is: to tailor your course to fit in with your requirements; make sure that you enjoy yourselves; and that you get as much as you wish out of your RYA approved course and holiday.
Our RYA approved Powerboat courses are either one, two or six days dependent upon the course. Our one day courses are ideal for those clients who are looking for something to do on holiday and if you have two days to spare you can do your Powerboat Level 2 course enabling you to gain your ICC.

RYA Powerboat Level 1 – Introduction to Power Boating
This course is designed for the complete beginner. The aim is to provide a practical introduction to power boating and safety in powerboats. This course is ideal for those wanting something different to do on holiday.

RYA Powerboat Level 2 National Powerboat Course / International Certificate of Competence
Suggested pre-course experience:
- No pre-course experience is required
- Minimum age: 12 years old
This course is also geared towards beginners, with slightly more being covered in the syllabus. The aim of the course is to learn the essentials of boat handling and seamanship. Upon completion you should be able to handle a powerboat (up to 10 m) in day light hours in familiar waters.
Level 2 Students may then apply for the International Certificate of Competence. For more details on the ICC click here.
Two of our Instructors are also PADI Instructors, and if the clients wish the course can with a snorkel or dive.

RYA Intermediate Powerboat Day Cruising Course
Suggested pre-course experience:
- RYA approved Powerboat Level 2
- Minimum age: 16 years old
- RYA First Aid Certificate
- RYA VHF (SRC) Certificate
A good standard of theory is required for this level. You will cover pilotage and passage planning by day along coastal waters, using both traditional and electronic navigational techniques.

RYA Advanced Powerboat Day & Night Course
Suggested pre-course experience:
- RYA approved Intermediate Powerboat Level 2
- Minimum age: 17 years old
- RYA First Aid Certificate
- RYA VHF (SRC) Certificate
Assumed Knowledge:
Basic navigation and sailing ability. Ideally you will have attended our RYA Day Skipper Theory Course, alternatively you need to have a good understanding of tidal heights & streams, passage planning, pilotage, taking bearings & fixes, and understand lights & shapes.
At this level you will cover more essential skills and safety considerations for skippering a boat by night, in unfamiliar waters. Aspects of the syllabus include: boat handling, seamanship, pilotage and navigation up to the standard required to drive planning boats safely by day and night. This is done in tidal coastal waters, with which the candidate may be familiar in slightly more demanding conditions.

Own Boat Tuition
If you have just purchased a boat and would like to get your ICC on your own boat, or would like to learn some advanced handling, one of our experienced Instructors can join you for one or more days. Our Instructors are experienced in Powerboat, Sailing and Motor Yachts up to 24m, and licensed up to 200 tonnes.

RYA Day Skipper Theory
Suggested pre-course experience:
- RYA Competent Crew or Powerboat level 2
This course is a comprehensive introduction to chart work, navigation, meteorology and the basics of seamanship. It is ideal for those sailors who have already gaining their RYA Competent Crew qualification, and complements the RYA Day Skipper practical course. You will find this course invaluable if you want to learn how to start making decisions on board.
The RYA Day Skipper theory course is also a requirement for the RYA/MCA Advanced Powerboat course.

Navigation Refresher Course
Suggested pre-course experience:
- Day Skipper Theory, Powerboat Level 2 or Intermediate Powerboat
This course is aimed at those clients who have done some theory before, but feel they need a refresher particularly if they are going on to do the Advanced Powerboat course.
Please note that this is not an RYA approved course, but will (like all our courses) be taken by one of our RYA approved Shorebased Instructors.

RYA First Aid
Suggested pre-course experience:
- No pre-course experience is required
In a medical emergency a little first aid knowledge and immediate action can save lives, especially in remote locations. This one day course is designed to provide a working knowledge of first aid for people using small craft and to support skippers of yacht and motor vessels. It fulfils the requirements for skippers of small craft working within 60 miles of a safe haven. The course is MCA and HSE approved.

RYA VHF (SRC)

If you own, or would like to use, a marine radio hand held or fixed set, you are required by international law to hold an operators license. This RYA approved course teaches the procedures for operation of both the radio and DSC.

RYA Diesel Engine Course
Suggested pre-course experience:
- No pre-course experience is required
Mechanical failure is the main cause of lifeboat callouts. Basic maintenance and engine care may ensure you are not part of these figures. This one-day course provides an awareness of the main systems of a marine diesel engine. It gives you the ability to take simple measures to prevent mechanical breakdown at sea and rectify defects which do not require workshop support.

RYA Sea Survival
Suggested pre-course experience:

Yachting is one of the safest leisure sporting activities and 99.9% of yachtsmen will never use their life raft
However, if you are one of the unlucky few, your chances of survival will be greatly increased if you understand how to use the equipment and help yourself.
This course is also required if you would like to become a RYA Cruising Instructor.
